Hey, everyone! My name is Ashley and I am an engagement photographer based out of San Diego, California. I am so excited to be sharing with you some Engagement Session Tips and advice for preparing your engagement session with me! It’s so important to have an engagement session because you will get an idea of what it will feel like to be in front of a professional wedding and portrait photographer. This will make your wedding photos much easier!
When picking outfits I recommend keeping in mind the word “complement” rather than “match.” For example, if the groom-to-be is wearing a blue and pink pastel plaid shirt, the bride-to-be may want to choose a long and flowy, soft blue dress.
When it comes to your engagement session, bring two outfits: a formal and a more casual outfit because this helps variety to the gallery. On your session day, save your favorite outfit for last. This way, we can end with a bang!
The “magic hour” that photographers are always talking about is the time before and about 15 minutes immediately after sunset. the 1-2 hours leading up to sunset is pretty magical. This time of day is indeed golden because of the warm skin tones and even light. We love shooting at this time of day because during the day time, it’s very hard light which can make the background blown out.
Once you hire me as your wedding photographer, the first thing I do is send you a style guide to help you prepare for your engagement session. This will have all the useful information in making sure you are ready to have the best experience with me. Once we book, we set up the date and time that works best for us; to ensure you get the images for your save-the-dates and invitations!
Lastly, one more piece of advice for the guys! Trust me, I get it. I work with several guys who have never done this before. They have no idea how to pose, act, or even feel for an engagement session. I am here to direct and educate the guys. We make it super fun, and it will get you ready for the wedding day! You just have to trust me.
